WHAT IS MASTERS COMMISSION?

Masters Commission was started in 1984 in Phoenix, Arizona by a man who was tired of seeing Christians live their lives with no foundation. He created a program that enabled students to devote a year (or nine months in our case) to God, studying and memorizing scripture, learning how to preach, building whole friendships, and most importantly working on their relationship with the Lord. Now it has become a movement; a network of people around the world (91 affiliated programs in 10 countries) who make it their mission to know God and make Him known. Master’s Commission is one of the most powerful, intense discipleship movements in this world today.

ABOUT ALLIANCE MASTERS COMMISSION

Alliance Master’s Commission is located in Benton Harbor, Michigan, one of the most impoverished cities in America. It neighbors its twin city, the trendy St. Joseph, “Michigan’s most romantic city,” and both rest on the white sandy beaches of the Southeast tip of Lake Michigan. Benton Harbor has a history of poverty, violence, and racism, which is in stark contrast to the towns and cities around it. Teen pregnancy rates are high, homeless roam the streets, and the conditions of many of the houses are less than livable. As you cross the bridge from Benton Harbor into St. Joseph, you move from a primarily African American community to a largely German community. Our home church, First Assembly of God, is located in St. Joseph. It is one of the largest and most culturally diverse churches

in Berrien County, full of life and growing. Our students

have an amazing opportunity to learn from some of the

best leaders in the state.

Our program is focused on discipleship and outreach. We take what we learn, pour it into our students, and together we pour it into the community. The goal is twofold: “To equip and empower this generation to win souls and make disciples.” Our name was coined because of our alliance with King of Kings church in Jerusalem, Israel. Once a year we travel there to help them spread the word that Jesus is the messiah and lift up the nation in prayer. It is interesting to see how God has held us to our name because of the different alliances we have formed, one of which is Youth Alive and the Seven Project. We help put on school assemblies and youth rallies around the state of Michigan. We love God with a passion and want to help students live a lifestyle that cultivates it.

DISCIPLESHIP

What is Discipleship? It is people teaching people how to live and love. Your relationship with Christ is the most important thing, and we teach a lifestyle that cultivates it. It goes beyond what you can learn in a classroom. Knowledge is important, but growth and maturity comes from putting that knowledge into action. We teach, then we do, and students watch. The goal is eventually for us to watch as they do; for them to excel and surpass even our abilities.

The theme of our program is based on the scripture that says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:19-20). Our students have an opportunity to learn from some the best leaders and pastors in the area.

Our desire is for every student to be able to walk away totally in love with God: with strong convictions, goals, and the confidence and self-discipline to carry them out. This result depends on an open heart and a willingness to learn.

The last words of Jesus prior to His ascension, as recorded in Acts 1:8, instructed us to be witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth. I believe Masters Commission to be a preparation for the fulfillment of that great command. In all of my years of ministry, I have never encountered a more powerful training course for young men and women to take the gospel to the ends of the earth.I want to invite you to come and experience the power of God in unlimited measure as God transforms your life into His image and purpose. We have a tremendous staff of Spirit filled leaders, who will assist you on this journey to finding you place in Gods Kingdom work. There is not a better place in the U.S. for you to use the gifts that God has given you and ministry opportunities abound for you here. Adopt-a-blockThis is one of our main outreaches where we have taken an entire section of the inner city of Benton Harbor under our care. Each week we go out onto the poverty stricken streets to minister, pray, evangelize, and meet the needs of local residents; sharing about how Christ has changed our lives has built substantial bridges in the last several years – it is exciting to see racial walls and barriers crumble and fall in the face of love. Our goal is to show the love of Christ by being a servant to the community and by replicating the love Christ has shown us. We hope to see souls come to Christ and eventually begin building small groups in their homes.

Intercessory PrayerWe believe in actively taking a stand against the enemy in the heavenly realm; this is when we intercede for our church, our community, and our families. The word says that He has given us the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm us (Luke 10:19). Prayer is absolutely necessary in order to change a community – our sole heartbeat and goal – and therefore we spend every Tuesday evening (as well as other spontaneous moments throughout the week, by the Spirit’s leading) waging war against the enemy . This isn’t your average ‘spending time with God’ prayer time; this is a time of engaging the enemy, breaking strongholds, and tear off demonic yokes. As intercessors, we stand in the gap between the enemy and his prey. Since the institution of intercession nights, the spiritual climate of our church and our community has shifted and continues to shift as we incessantly immerse our streets and homes with the presence of God.

DramaWe use drama as a creative tool to share the gospel of Christ. This is something that has no language barrier. Students who join AMC will participate in dramas during times of ministry and travel.

Every Wednesday night we get a chance to show the image of Christ to the people in our youth group. This is an incredible opportunity to minister to the hurting. We take time to get to know and disciple the students, praying with them and for them, and digging deep into their lives so that God's healing can happen.

Seven Project
No Frame

Michigans Youth Alive director and the Seven Project have brought us on board with them, putting on school assemblies and youth rallies throughout our state. This is an incredible opportunity for us to reach out to youth hundreds of miles away from our headquarters. We use creative dramas and skits to present a positive message for students in middle school and high school, inviting them to return in the even for a youth rally; this is where we present the full-fledged gospel and see literally hundreds come to Christ at and get connected to local youth groups to be discipled. We believe God uses the Seven Project to cause huge change, answering the prayers of local churches and youth groups all over the nation.

FINE ARTS

Our fine arts department encompasses a wide array of creative outlets for AMC students including being involved in the Fire Choir along with Christmas and Easter productions. The Fire Choir provides friendships, relationships, and accountability outside of the AMC program, allowing students to connect with the amazing people in our church and participate in several of its events. On occasion, the choir travels to different churches locally to worship and fellowship with other Christian bodies in the area. Our contribution to the church productions includes helping in the construction of sets and props, script-writing, singing, as well as acting.

It is important in every Masters Commission to have balance between ministry and curriculum. The ministerial aspect of masters is a chance for you to pour your heart into the people around you, while the curriculum is where you get poured back into, both spiritually and mentally. Each student has three options pertaining to what type of schooling they pursue: South Western Assemblies of God University distance education college courses (S.A.G.U.), Berean courses, or School of Valor. Each option is designed for different scenarios of student life, whether the student wishes to be a certified pastor within the year (Berean), or wishes to obtain college credit (S.A.G.U.), or if the student wishes to pursue and develop leadership and ministerial skills and knowledge (School of Valor).

Changed people ultimately change people. First you get ministered to, then you minister. Here at AMC we recognize the need of education not only to enhance a students knowledge and life skills to survive in the job-diminishing world today, but also to broaden their views and allow them to grasp God in a fuller and more vivid way.

Scripture Memorization

"All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work."

Every AMC student enrolled in AMC is required to learn and memorize over 400 scriptures total, because being able to apply the Word of God to daily situations is an absolute necessity for a Christian believer today. Memorizing scripture will cleanse a mind from the garbage the media and society feeds to the people in this world - out with the bad, in with the good.

"I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." -Psalm 199:11

Without the knowledge of the word, you have virtually no knowledge of God. We do not just memorize to simply memorize. We take the word of the Lord and place it in our hearts so that we can teach and be taught, so we can correct in love and be corrected in love, and so we can train and be trained in righteousness, this way we will be equipped for every good work the Lord has for us.

Page 3 Public SpeakingWe encourage our students to be bold and confident in everything they do. One way that we help to instill this principle in their lives is to use them at every available opportunity for public speaking. These opportunities include school assemblies, kid's church and youth group, street ministry, devotions for the MCA class and more.One area of public speaking that we focus on is the Sermon assignment. After you have been taught how to speak with confidence and how to build a sermon, you as a student, are required to write a sermon to preach in front of your peers as part of your school year. Although this may sound intimidating, once you step over that hurdle of getting up and taking the initial dive, speaking in front of a group is no harder or more intimidating than getting out of bed in the morning.

School of Valor

SCHOOL OF VALOR

The School of Valor was designed by our lead director and is specifically tailored for students in AMC to enhance their experience in Masters and deepen their knowledge concerning a wide variety of topics, including: spiritual warfare, leadership, servant-hood, personality types, revival, etc. Each month the student focuses on a particular subject, reading and completing a comprehensive book report as well as a Bible report. In addition, a student gives two creative presentations per semester to the rest of the AMC students on topics they have recently studied.

The predetermined books a student is given on each subject will greatly increase their understanding of practical and theological matters often overlooked or left unaddressed in a typical Christians life. Furthermore, the student will learn how deeply study the word of God and be equipped with the resources to examine the author, time period and context, as well as the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek words used so that they can better comprehend what the Bible has to say; old stories will be brought to a new and fresh light, and once-thought insignificant verses will suddenly be transformed into paramount theological foundations.

Berean

BEREAN

The Berean School of Bible is a distance education program provided by Global University, designed to allow students to become certified pastors within a year. There are 9 courses, one per month, in which students receive a textbook and participate in chapter tests, unit quizzes, and a final exam over each subject. At the end of the 9 courses you will be applying for your credentials through the Assemblies of God.

The Berean School of Bible prides itself in being one of the most pristine independent-study programs in the Christian ministry today. The Assemblies of God has a three-tier hierarchy of credentials: certification, licensing, and then ordination. Students who become certified through Berean then have the option of continuing their studies to become licensed and then ordained Assemblies of God ministers.

SAGU

Southwestern Assemblies of God University offers AMC students the opportunity to participate in their distance education program which allows students to earn college credit during their time in Masters Commission. You will be taking a total of two classes each semester, and will be required to complete all online class material; this includes watching online lectures taught by your distance education professor and completing assignments and projects.

Taking S.A.G.U. classes also opens up more opportunities for financial aid through the government; however, if a student fails to pass the courses their financial aid will be suspended. The credit a student earns is transferable to any Assemblies of God college if the student chooses to pursue a college education after Masters.

There is so much to gain from discovering different cultures and viewing the world from the eyes of another person - traveling is one of Gods best educators; it allows you to see your classmates in a different environment. We like to give our students the opportunity to not only share in these experiences but to also work behind the scenes making sure everything runs smoothly. This opens the door for us to get to know youth pastors and leaders in the area. Throughout the year we travel to different churches. We book services at youth groups around the state to see the Holy Spirit move in mighty ways and transform the lives of youth. These trips also allow you as a student to perform human videos, skits, preach, share testimonies, and get involved in real peoples lives. We want to allow you every opportunity as a student to shine and positively affect the lives of the people you meet. Every year we take the team to youth conventions in the states that surround us. By setting up a booth and becoming involved in the service, we are in a great location to minister to the young people as they meet God. Attending a youth convention as a young person in high school can be an immense, life-impacting experience and we get to a part of it.

Alliance MC is joining forces with Abundant Life Ministries to bring hope to the people of Iquitos, Peru. Our friends there have a huge heart for their community and are working hard to make a difference. They have many different ministries currently and are seeing miracles of God.

This year, we are planning to send 13 people to Peru for three weeks. This will help our friends there jumpstart much of the work that they have started. In order to do that, we are raising funds.

What is Masters Commission?Masters Commission is one of the most intense Christian discipleship programs in the world. It was started in Phoenix, Arizona in 1984 as a means to teach young people with a heart for God to live for Him and to build a strong foundation in their relationship with Him. We are in essence a school that teaches a lifestyle rather than just knowledge. A person in Masters Commission is free to focus on his relationship with God and build a foundation for his faith before he builds a family and a career. We give him a schedule full of opportunities to experience God, we show him the kind of life that pleases God, and we push him out of his comfort zone to share his faith with others. We are always doing our best to be relevant to the time and do the things God directs us to do, which is why our program is ever-changing. We support our pastor in his vision for the area we live in, and we are always allowing creativity to grow. Ministry can happen any time and anywhere; we try not to keep it in a box.Why would I go to Masters Commission?The world is saying that as of 2002, 50% of Christians who go from high school to college will lose their faith. There are many reasons for this and if you want you can blame the church, or blame parents, or blame the school system, but the responsibility falls on you. What are you going to do to ensure that your faith is built on a rock and not on the sand? Are you ready to leave the structure of your family and church and face the world on your own? Are you going to join the apathetic generation of half-hearted Christians who eventually fall away, or are you going to ensure that you will do everything to stand strong in the face of the world? We are looking for world-changers. Our goal is to equip you with knowledge and give you the opportunity to go deeper with God. Here you will experience the kinds of things that you’ll be able to look back on and say, “God showed up, I know He’s real!”Why would I be interested in AMC?Now that’s something to consider! Why here and not there? First, simply ask God where he wants you to go. If the answer is AMC, then this is definitely where you should be. If you feel you have no idea what to do with your life and no idea how to hear from God, we can help you with that. Have you ever felt you were standing in front of a wall with no answers and no clue how to get through it? With a little guidance it’s amazing what a person can overcome. Some people come to our Master’s Commission because of its location, some have built relationships with our leadership and want to learn more about what God has for them, some are drawn by our unique opportunity to go to Israel and Peru. We also offer accredited college courses (up to 12 credit hours per year) through Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU). This enables students to apply for financial aid. You don’t have to be called to the ministry to come to Master’s Commission. In fact it’s a great opportunity to take a year and build a strong foundation before going into the world and pursuing that career you’ve always dreamed of. We believe that everyone who comes here is here for a reason. It is always surprising who we are blessed with when the year begins; it is no accident.How much is tuition? How can I raise funds?The tuition amount for first year students varies from year to year. To find out this year's tuition prices, please call 269.926.6505. Tuition covers your living expenses, food, gas, curriculum costs, and a number of other expenses for a whole nine months. We do our best to keep tuition as low as possible. Our new opportunity with SAGU enables students to apply for financial aid for their tuition. There are also benefits at certain colleges just for completing a year in Master’s Commission (some give scholarships, others give credits). If you are applying to AMC and intend on taking SAGU courses, go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and apply for financial aid as SOON as possible. Grants are only there for a time; once the money is gone, it’s gone. There are also other ways of raising tuition, such as writing support letters, talking to your church, working hard… An effective support letter tells the reader who you are, what you want to do, what you’re doing to get there, and EXACTLY what you need. Pictures always help too. Be creative, and make the effort. Most of all pray. There are countless stories of people who experienced a miracle of provision at the last minute. If God has called you here, he will pay for it; especially if he sees you are doing your best!Where would I live?Alliance Masters Commission is located in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Our home church, First Assembly of God, is located in our sister city, St. Joseph. These two neighboring cities lie on the southwest tip of Michigan right on the lake. Here we have white sandy beaches, vineyards, and the St. Joseph River. Silver Beach, located in St. Joseph, is known as one of the best beaches in the country. It is literally a ten minute drive from our campus. Our housing is not yet permanent. Our goal is to have dorm-like living quarters, but until then our students live in a house in Benton Harbor and in the homes of some very generous and welcoming church members. What will I learn during my first year?You will learn a lot about life in a little amount of time. Most obviously, you will learn scripture (and memorize it), you will learn how to live a Godly lifestyle, how to preach, you’ll learn dramas, grow in character, and learn how and when to lead and follow. You’ll also learn the different areas of church ministry, such as children’s, youth, choir, intercession, outreach, worship, etc. Most importantly, we want to teach you what you’re willing to learn about how to connect with God. We encourage you to get as much as you can out of the time you are with us. You get out of it what you put into it, so if you’re giving your whole self, you will gain an experience you will never regret. You’ll gain more if you’re willing, open, and honest.Seriously, why no dating?If you didn’t already know, when you come to Master’s as a first year student you sign a covenant to God stating that you will give your whole self to Him for the next nine months. This means you remove all distractions from your life, particularly dating, in order to run after God wholeheartedly. It’s really a unique experience, and dating easily pulls a person away from this kind of devotion. There is a time and season for all things and your time with us is a season of focus and relationship with God. What a relief it is to know that everyone is here for the same purpose, not trying to impress, or romance. That kind of environment frees a person. Why Israel?As Christians our spiritual heritage begins in Jerusalem. Imagine being able to sit where Jesus sat to teach the disciples or take a boat, like the one that He took, out on to the Sea of Galilee! Taking a trip to Israel and spending a few days walking in the feet of Jesus brings the Bible to life. Stories you may have heard all your life now come alive right in front of your eyes. There’s so much to gain from learning about the culture of God’s chosen people. It’s so important that we even named our masters after the alliance we have formed in Israel. We will be working with the King of Kings church in Jerusalem, helping them with their outreaches, serving them in their church and learning what life is like living in Israel.Going to Israel has been a dream of Masters Commission since it started in 1984. It is a wonderful opportunity to not only be a world traveler but a world changer!Why Peru?Once again, because of our connections (“alliances”) we have an awesome opportunity to travel to Iquitos, Peru every year. Located on the Amazon River, it is the largest city in the world not accessible by land. If you love children, this is the place for you to go. This poverty-stricken population is 70% children. It’s not difficult to walk down the muddy neighborhood streets and find a crowd of kids following you; a great occasion to give love. This trip will open your eyes to

Hey! It's Susan Here. I'd like to say a few words:To the General PublicMaster's Commission is a radical movement across our nation and in various parts of the world, changing lives, strengthening the faith of a generation of youth. But Master's is not for the faint at heart. It is a 24-7 rigorous life-makeover. We are not just teaching a philosophy, we are teaching a lifestyle. That’s why a student who joins this program needs to be ready to give everything to the Lord. We are looking for those who are called, and for those who are determined to seek God with everything they have. It is rare to find a soul whose determination outlasts their circumstances, their past, and even their culture. Master’s Commission is a subculture of young people who want more than mediocrity and who want to take the time to get close to God and let Him remove all hindrances before moving on to a life full of distractions. To the Possible Student If you are considering going to Master's Commission, there are some things you need to know. Nine months in Master’s Commission is a time set aside to give everything to God. When you take it seriously, it can be a life-changing experience; an experience you can look back on and say, “I know God is real because He met me here.” You have to be ready and willing to allow God to move. When you come here, you sign a covenant that tells us and God that you will stay submitted and accountable to leadership, lay aside your dating life during your first year, lay aside your time, and that you will lay aside all other distractions in order to seek God whole-heartedly. You have to give yourself fully to God in order to fully gain His blessings. It is this principle we want to impart because it is those who seek God who will find Him. Count the cost (Luke 14:27-33). A covenant made for the heart is very difficult to uphold when the heart isn’t in it. So my word to you is, be serious about this. If you’re heart isn’t in it, you will not succeed. To the Parents and Family of Future Master's Commission Students: Master’s Commission might possibly be the best thing for your son or daughter. It’s a place where he (or she) is surrounded by people who will encourage him to seek after God. It’s a place where he will be encouraged not only to chase after his dreams, but where he will begin to believe in himself; that all things are possible with Christ. He will begin to discover his talents and even spiritual gifting. I’ve seen so many people change. There is hope for the most stubborn of minds. When a person is willing to Let God move, and when he is surrounded by encouragement, when he is putting the word of God in his heart, and is protected and guided by spiritual leaders, a person begins to see all that he is made of. Perverted minds become pure again, anger is put out, negative attitudes change, and inner turmoil is replaced with peace. All of this can happen for your son or daughter or brother or sister. What they need from you is support: emotional, moral, spiritual, and financial support. Master’s Commission is not a typical kind of schooling. The world does not see a diploma from this, and so many students receive a lot of criticism. When you join in on the criticism, you become a part of the opposition. They need you to be on their side. They need you to help them submit to their leadership. They need you to let them go so they can devote themselves fully to this endeavor. They will be busy constantly, and need you to understand their commitment. What better thing can you give your son or daughter than encouragement to be the best they can be?

I and my ministry team are incredibly honored you have taken the time to get to know our hearts.Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) " 'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.' " God has designed a blessed and successful life for you to enjoy.Discovering "who you are" as a unique human being and living an authentic life may be the healthiest definition of "success" in your life.I began in ministry as a Worship Arts Pastor in Saint Joseph, MI in 2002. I understood at a young age that a huge joy and desire in me was discipling men and women to reach their potential in Christ. I am passionate in seeing people become the best version of themselves through Christ. God opened the door for that with the development of our discipleship school/program called Alliance Master's Commission at First Assembly of God here in St. Joe. Currently in our 5th year, and looking into the future at our 6th, God is allowing us to build strong young men and women in all areas of life and ministry. Although we focus on dance, drama, music, youth, children's ministry and evangelism as well as other areas such as restorative community outreach, church services, travelling within the U.S., missions, mentorship, and more , we are also aware of the pressures facing this generation and the need for young adults to be strongly grounded in Chirst before entering the worldwide workforce.Our staff is comprised of committed disciples who have lived the call and caught the vision of the Master's Heart. Where other programs have one or two leaders for every twenty or thirty students, our staff-student discipleship ratio is better than one leader to two students.
